of a wild morning. carolyn. >> see you often this morning, lisa. thank you: the windy, rain weather is turning up the waves in pacifica. that's where kera is with us. good morning. >> good morning. it is windy here and it is a steady, moderate rain as we said it will only get worse as the day pro grosses. moderate right now but steady on our drive from pacifica through san francisco this morning. luckily the people who were on the roads were driving quite slowly, taking heed to the potentially dangerous conditions this morning. things right now in pacifica, the gates are supposed to be open on the pier, we saw a group of about ten crappers hoping to go cracking but they couldn't because the gates were closed. one gentlemen approached us and asked why are the gates closed? our assumption is it is a precaution because the weather

will only continue to get worst. the water hasn't exceeded the seawall yet, but chance are they will. we are standing back so we won't get hit by the water. wind is coming from the south instead of the west and that could cause some problems today. but we will have the latest coming up in about 30 minutes. for now reporting live in pacifica, abc7 news. >> moderate rain but you are certainly getting wet out there. thank you. >> yes. >> the weather has been causing problems all over the bay area. one of the biggest was at the corner of 17th of potrero in san francisco. john alston said it will take a few days to clean up the mess afro's storm toppled a gas station's canopy, along with a tree. >> it could have been much worse when a large canopy toppled next to the gas pump on 17th and

potrero. public works will remove ranches from a tree that crashed through the window of a parked car that had broken down next to the gas station friday night. >> i'm thank god that none of us got killed sitting in the car because we were sitting in car last night. >> the square, metal post that held up the covering snapped during a strong rainstorm about 3:30 in the afternoon. the fire department thinks it crashed down after a ranch from the tree landed on top of the metal structure. gas station clerk hit the automatic shut off valve and cut electrical power to the pump. >> i heard something, a know, and i saw outside and some trees fell down, hit the canopy and the canopy broke down. >> an employ we the public works department said it appeared the canopy blue into the tree first. that will all that to get sorted out when the insurance companies get involved. the city will brace the structure before it is removed

in the next day or so. abc7 news. >> air travelers are having weather related problems as they head in and out of town for the holiday. unsettled weather and scattered showers coming through the bay area brought change in wind direction this weekend. that always causes air traffic at sfo to redirect landing and takeoff landings from north and south. it limits the number of departing and landing flights and backs up the traffic of traffic. only a flew flights were cancelled yesterday according to the flight information board. >> we have an hour delay so we were supposed to leave at two and then we are leaving at three. we are supposed to fly into chicago. we will have about ten minutes to connect to our flight. >> and with more rain on the way, delays are expected to continue. about 100,000 people traveled through sfo yesterday. stay with abc7 news for continuing storm watch coverage.

will have the worst weather in the north bay and it will spread south. ant to plan your happening around the weather or wait. as we look at emeryville, we have light rain in the area. wind is increasing and wind advisory in the north bay. wind will pick newspaper san francisco in the next hour and by about 7:00 in the south bay. we are be looking at another active morning. live doppler hd, the surf is up and the winds will kick up throughout the morning. the wind is up and in marin county lighter returns in the east bay. moderate rain with fog. others kind of a mess from highway 101, santa rosa, through sonoma and yachtville. very gusty in the napa valley, as well. the win will be perhaps over 40 miles an hour in the higher elevations. not much yet in pleasanton.

tag you down toward hayward we have cloudy skies and more rain from the half moon day to the santa cruz mountains. you see how it's enhanced here from los gatos. and winds have picked up. gusts to 30 miles an hour azubuike long the coast. we will continue to see the rain and wind throughout the morning hours and eventually things will quiet down throughout the afternoon. heavy rain this morning. clearing for the evening hours with just a chance of showers. we are dry for christmas eve and then christmas day is looks like we will see a weak system visit the north bay. wind advisory until 1:00 for the north bay, 3:00 for san francisco on south and wind gusts up to 50 miles an hour w the saturated soil we could see some trees down or power lines. so here's the next system. it's a a pretty powerful one. we could even see an isolated

thunderstorm as this rolls through. 6:00, notice most the activity from sonoma, napa, marin, but in the next, two, three hours, we are over the heart of the bay area. san francisco, half moon bay, down through the south bay will continue to see the heavier rain. livermore valley things pick up. 2:00 light to moderate rain across much of the south bay, and you will notice the rest of sunday not looking too bad. so in addition of one to two inches, even three inches possible in the north bay. mountains, 4 inches. santa cruz mountains. and inch to inch and a half around the east bay and peninsula and south bay. the winter storm warning continues until 4:00 tomorrow with two or three feet of snow above 7,000 feet. mid-and upper 50s but the gusty southeast winds today. last to clear out the central coast it will take towards about 2:00. otherwise we dry out tomorrow.

>> welcome back, everyone. the latest storm is hitting the bay area right now. we want to check in with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi carolyn. good morning, everyone. the rain is increasing. here's a look at down turn san francisco. light rain. a wind advisory is posted in effect in the north bay. next half-hour in san francisco the winds will continue to pick up, as well as the east bay. you sigh the heavy rain from the north bay into parts of the east bay and the santa cruz mountains. this is moderate to heavy rain here from santa rosa, windsor, up to fort ross and highway 101.

the winds gusting to over 26 miles an hour in san jose. rain along the coast with 30 miles an hour gusts and hayward 23 american wind gusts. hercules more moderate rain. in oakland light it moderate rain and westward on to peninsula the spotty light rain. and heavier rain along the coast is about to move in. things are certainly tick piing up as the rain pushes along the coastline here. in fact, the system is still far to the north. we will look for the rain and wind to stay with us all morning long into a portion of the afternoon. we will time that off. talk about christmas eve. a dry christmas eve. christmas day we are still looking at more rain. that's all coming up in a few minutes. >> look forward to it. thank you, lisa. this wind and rain are churning up the surf along the coast. abc7 news reporter kera clapper is live in pacifica. good morning, kera. are you getting pounded?

>> yes, carolyn. good morning. the wind is really picking up here. my photographer had to hold the tripod and camera so they wouldn't blow over receipt before i came on air. the pinned, as i said, picking up and blowing the rain really hard horizontally at some points. now you see it's a moderate rain. but it's steady. it hasn't stopped for the last, oh, two hours, i would say. but let's get you to some video we shot about 15 minutes ago here at pacifica pier. waves up to 16 feet are expected today. nearby to the south at 5:30 this morning at rock away beach there are 9 1/2 foot swells. the pi. he r is closed much to the kiss may of some crabbers.

tap he would metal canopy that fell over during friday afternoon's storm. fortunately no one was injured at this 76 station located at 17 and potrero when the roof came crashing down. the attendant quickly shut off gas to the pump so mow gas spilled. and it was an unoccupied car here but a few hours earlier the owner of that disabled car was sitting inside waiting for help. you see challenging conditions crossing the sierra. gains are required at gold run, but it's open again for both cars and big rinse. u.s. 50 to south lake tahoe also has chain alcohol starting east of placer placerville. and crews say holiday travelers
